The 2017 Ballon d'Or is to be presented today, Thursday 7 December. Cristiano Ronaldo, who last year received the prestigious accolade which is awarded by France Football, is bidding to secure his fifth Ballon d'Or. Also featuring amongst this year's 30 nominees are fellow madridistas Sergio Ramos, Marcelo, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Isco and Karim Benzema. Since the award was last presented, the seven Real Madrid men have captured the Club World Cup, the Champions League, LaLiga, the UEFA Super Cup and the Spanish Super Cup.
The 2017 Ballon d'Or winner will be revealed after 7:45pm CET with former French footballer David Ginola set to present the award. Realmadrid TV will broadcast a special programme from 5:30pm CET.
The contenders
Real Madrid are the best-represented club amongst the list of the 30 nominees, which was drawn up by France Football's writers. The remaining contenders are: Neymar, Dybala, Kanté, Luis Suárez, Oblak, Coutinho, Mertens, Dzeko, Kane, De Gea, Lewandowski, De Bruyne, Falcao, Mané, Griezmann, Buffon, Hummels, Cavani, Messi, Aubameyang, Hazard, Mbappé and Bonucci.
