Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo recently extended a world record previously held by longstanding rival Lionel Messi, and can even add to his tally this week.
Messi scored 25 goals in international competition for club and country during his world-record year when he hit 91 goals for FC Barcelona and Argentina in 2012.
Ronaldo, though, has already scored 30 international goals in 2017. He broke Messi's record in October when he scored in the UEFA Champions League against Tottenham Hotspur and added two more goals in Real's 6-0 rout of APOEL, as well as another one strike in his club's final group stage win over Borussia Dortmund.
Overall, the Portuguese scored 11 times for the national team and another 19 in the UEFA Champions League for Real Madrid in 2017.
Ronaldo has two more possible chances to add to his international tally at the FIFA Club World Cup this week. Los Blancos face Al Jazira in the semi-final on Wednesday, and could progress to the final, which takes place on Saturday.
If Real return to Spain with the trophy, it will be there third title of the 2017/18 season after lifting the Spanish Super Cup and the UEFA Super Cup already.
