Depends on different era. I mean which era of Messi or Ronaldo are you willing to replace?

These were absolute beasts . Can dribble past anyone and literally win a match single handedly . Everytime they touched the ball it felt like they are going to score goals

Among the current crop of players , I dont think no one can ever replace them. Their zeal for win , the ambition . No one .

But even then I will go for Hazard and Neymar (No Mbappe, still unproven and reminds me more of Henry)

Neymar is so good that he may eclipse some of their records but is way too much inconsistent. Being in the same team as Messi it is tough to see his impact level(Except for PSG ). Without Messi he handled the pressure well and so some hopes are there.

Hazard is a big impact player and kind of has the same zeal for win . He is kind of a very good overall player but not as good as Ronaldo

Sorry Bale is too injured and Dybala will have to prove more.

OR THESE

Still are beasts on the field but situations and age has forced them to change their position.Ronaldo on one hand changed into a terrific goal scorer Messi started playing deeper.

Messi can still score loads of goals, can dribble past , and has become a provider of a goal with Iniesta aging and not much provider left in Barcelona.

This Messi can not be replaced as a whole. But there are different players who can do his role altogether.

A weird combination of Dybala, Thiago,Neymar may do the trick.

Ronaldo has turned into an absolute beast . He literally needed two half chances to defeat Juve in finals. He has now an unparalleled killer instinct.

He can be compared to Suarez but lets be real and admit he is also good in so much more areas.

If Bale manages to be fit or Mbappe continues to perform so , they may fill his shoes.

They have become so much more than football players for the team. The psychological game being played inside the head of opponent coach by their mere presence is something cannot be replaced. And for that anyone who is willing to replace them have to perform at such a high level for a decade and THAT’S TOUGH

Both Ronaldo and Messi are one of kind. They’re unique. So finding a replacement for them won’t be easy for Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Cristiano Ronaldo-

He turned 32 this year. Not much of a career left for him. But he had a tremendious last season. His contract with Real Madrid expires on 2021. Madrid already on their verge to sign a player who could fill the shoes of Ronaldo. Number 1 on my list who could replace Cristiano Ronaldo is

Eden Hazard-

Explosive speed. Check. Great dribbling skills. Scores a lot of goals. Check. The Belgian winger is number one replacement for the Portuguese star. He is an extremly talented lad, with so much to offer.

But he could be on his verge to sign as a replacement of Neymar in F.C. Barcelona. Chelsea Boss, Antonio Conte, already made it clear of the player’s intension to join the club. FC Barcelona are keen on signing Philippe Coutinho. They have already prepared a bid of £120m for the Brazilian.

2. Kylian Mbappé-

The French teenage forward is one of the finest talent in the world right. He is wanted by almost all the top clubs including Real Madrid, FC Barcelona. But Real Madrid could sign him soon. His current club AS Monaco already made it clear his worth around £165m. Mbappé is brilliant player. He can be a replacement for Crisitiano Ronaldo.

Lionel Messi-

Messi oh! Messi. He a masterclass.. His dribbling skills are out of the world. Messi is the backbone of FC Barcelona. Replacing him would be hell of a task for them. There are only a few players who can do that-

Paulo Dybala-

Argentine. Check. Left footed. Check. Scores bucket load of goals. Check. Sound familiar?

Paulo Dybala is already a superstar in his own right at Juventus and it looks like just a matter of time before he establishes himself as one of the best players in the world and makes a move to either Real Madrid or Barcelona.A quick, creative and agile player blessed with excellent technical ability, Dybala has time and again shown that he is more than capable of mixing it with the big boys.

Lionel Messi himself had praised Dyabla in an interview:"Paulo is a great player and he has a bright future ahead of him, I have no doubt about it that people will talk about him a lot over the next few years."

2. Ousmane Dembele-

19-year-old Ousmane Dembele has been turning heads with his wonderful performances for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga this season. The teenaged French international was wanted by all the top clubs across Europe but the German giants managed something of a coup when they convinced Dembele to sign for them.

Blessed with electric pace, amazing close control and supreme dribbling skills, Dembele has arguably become BVB’s most important player and is already touted by many to become a future Ballon d’Or winner.

So he is another talented lad who could be a successor to Lionel Messi.

There can be no like-for-like replacement for these legends. We see this statements manifested when either of these teams play without them. Both Messi and Ronaldo hammer in almost 50 goals every season for their respective teams. So, its almost impossible to name a replacement for these players. However, I can list the young talents who play at similar positions and can develop into world-class players in near future.

Ronaldo

Ronaldo is a natural goalscorer. He can score goals even from half chances and can beat two or three players at will with his immaculate trickery. Formerly a talented winger, he has now metamorphosed into a traditional No. 9 who can press the backline and give defenders all sorts of problems with his intelligent off-the-ball movement.

The ideal replacement would be Kylian Mbappe. The lad has pace, can dribble and is a goal-scoring threat. He has all the qualities of a good forward at such a young age. He has a long way to go, especially with his physical and athletic abilities to become a complete forward, but these can be honed with time. He is not two footed, but his weak foot is strong enough to be a goal scoring threat. We should also take into considration that he has been on the scene for only about a year now, and it might be a bit premature to christen him as Ronaldo's successor, but he a has all the attributes to be a world-class forward in near future.

Another replacement for Ronaldo would be Ousmane Dembele. The guy has pace, has a few tricks up his sleeve which he effectively uses to beat defenders. Alhtough he does not have the physical edge that Ronaldo has, he is young and can be trained to develop similar attributes.

Another youngster who possesses a similar skill-set is Charly Musonda Jr . Here is a YouTube video link:

He is a naturally skilled dribbler and is touted as the next Ronaldo. Even Cristiano appreciated his skills. The player considers Ronaldo his mentor and plays in an identical style. Although injury-prone, he is young and can be moulded into a top player.

Among existing players, statistically Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Eden Hazard are players who can play similar roles for Real Madrid.

Messi

Messi plays at the right forward role for Barcelona. Although stationed at a wide position, he likes to cut in and drift towards the centre to play as a false nine. This position allows him to unleash his creativity and use his superior dribbling, passing and goalscoring talents. He also demonstrates great vision and his able to create chances for his teammates.

The modern day game of football has resulted in a decline of natural false-nines. Messi is truly one of a kind (pls no hate here) and there appear to be very few players who can play a similar role for Barcelona.

The ideal replacement for Messi would be a kid from la Masia, Lee Seung Woo. Here is a video of the young talent,

He has a skill set similar to Messi. He can dribble round players, has a great first touch and has vision, a rare talent for such a young player.

In the current senior crop, Neymar Jr was thought to be his replacement( there is a very slim chance due to his transfer news).

When Messi was injured in the previous season, it was Neymar who stepped up and took over the responsibility for the team. He created a truck-load of chances and registered assists and goals in the short period where Messi was absent. He is someone who can drop deep and can link up midfield and attack. Although Neymar likes to play as a traditional winger, toying with defences in his brilliant style, he has all the skills in his repertoire to become a classic false-nine.

Paulo Dybala is a player who can play a role similar to Messi. He has similar physical attributes and has the qualities required to mature into a false-nine. At the momen he is a traditional centre forward who can drop deep and link up play with his teammates. He also has a killer instinct for goal, which was on brilliant display last season. Although he has to mature in his decision-making on field, he has time on his side. He can be a good replacement for the phenomenal Argentine

Another player who is highly rated is Munir-El-Haddadi. He is able to play in all the forward positions and is a traditional right winger, the same position at which Messi plays. He has good dribbling skills and has vision. He was touted to be the next Messi. But, at the moment, his career appears on a downward spiral due to lack of opportunities for first-team minutes.

I will reiterate that Messi and Cristiano are irreplaceable and the list is just about players who can replace some of their qualities. I, as a football fan have been lucky enough to see these legends grace the game of football. I hope we find young players who can take up the large voids that will be taken up once these legends retire.

In you have been following football for long enough then you might have observed that player hit their peak at different ages and the periods can be anywhere between short to long. For example consider Ivan Persic, at 27 he has hit the best in class quality and now Manchester United want him because of his flair and aslo he's 6″2 very uncommon for a winger.

Ronaldo and Messi in this aspect have hit their peak early in their careers and have been able to continue.

So even with so much potential rated rated players out there, it's the display on the field that matters.

Eden Hazard is running riots since five seasons at Chelsea except for one bad season. But guy is so good that you miss him evidently when he doesn't play. So such impact players who have proven for more than two seasons atleast and are young according to me include-

Hazard

Neymar

Delete Ali

Harry Kane

Marco Reuse is one great talent, but not everyday that he can hold the headlines. It's a very cruel game to some players at times.

Much have been already said in answers given by other writers, so I'm just gonna name the players I think who can take up their respective roles in the team.

Mbappe for Real Madrid replacing Cristiano Ronaldo.

Dembele for FC Barcelona replacing Lionel Messi.

Good luck finding the replacement.

Every soccer player is uniqe.

People after 10 years are maybe going to ask who will replace Kylian Mbappe or Halliovic or Anthony Martial or xyz.

At least I hope…

Enjoy these two while you can.

No one! Trust me.

They're players who are one of a kind. Real Madrid did by getting Bale and Barcelona by Neymar.

But both of them couldn't.

Just accept that they're the best and irreplaceable.
