Former Super Eagles midfielder, Mutiu Adepoju has sent out words of encouragement to Victor Moses after the Chelsea ace was omitted from the final shortlist of players for the 2017 African Player of the Year.

CAF on Monday released the list of three players that would battle it out for the continent's top individual football award, but Moses failed to make the cut.

Those in contention for the continent’s top prize, are Sadio Mane, Pierre Aubameyang and Mohamed Salah who only recently won the BBC African Player of the Year, beating Nigeria's Victor Moses and other rivals to the top prize. Adepoju wrote on his twitter handle: Dear @VictorMoses ,

don't feel bad about. Train hard, work hard and who says you can't be named 2018 African Player of the Year. I believe in you!

The last time a Nigerian won the African Footballer of the Year Award was in 1999 through Kanu Nwankwo and the wait to end the jinx will continue again, as the country’s sole hope has been dashed.

It is yet to be seen if Moses can rack up similar or better performance that saw him get a twin nomination in the CAF and BBC Awards.
