Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta put on a show as Liga champions Barcelona eased past Villarreal to move two games away from completing an unbeaten season.

Barcelona broke the deadlock early on, with Ousmane Dembele beating three men before firing in a low shot which Sergio Asenjo spilled for Philippe Coutinho to tap home in the 11th minute.

His Brazilian compatriot Paulinho doubled the scoring five minutes later after a superb team move, tapping home after Andres Iniesta played in Lucas Digne, who rolled the ball across goal.

Barcelona’s third goal was even better, with Iniesta playing a sensational first-time chip pass to Messi, who volleyed home just before half-time.

Villarreal pulled one back in the second half when Nicola Sansone deflected Fornals’s shot past Cillessen, but it was a mere consolation.

And Dembele got in the act late on with a deserved brace to add some gloss to the score.
